I hope you don't have to do battle with the database from hell too often but it would be comforting, perhaps, to be kept informed if the entire site is offline again.

That's a great idea. I'll wait to see just how reliable the new host is first (with crossed fingers!). Let's just hope it's not an issue!

Thankfully, the database thing seems to be a non-issue so far. All the backups that I've made are roughly the same file size (unlike the other host) and every database backup restores perfectly simply to my test server (unlike the last host). I'm cautiously optimistic!
