arty farty anyone?
« on: August 25, 2011, 03:58:04 PM »
I'm a bit arty and like to make a mess but I'm very disappointed by any lack of group I can join in the evening without it being some kind of art class. I don't want an art class. I dislike being told what to do. Been there and done that!

I'd like a space to just create, whether it be paint, draw, craft etc. I miss having other people around me to help and inspire. I think it can make a big difference. i want to get my creativity back on track...so I'm wondering if its worth creating my own sort of arts group. I'm looking into spaces at the moment.

I'm hoping not to spend any money as I don't have any  ;D but I know that some places may offer a venue for bout £10 an hour. I'm wondering if other people would seriously be interested as this would make it cost effective?

I would be looking for a time in the evening. Hands up if you might be interested...plus if you have any connnections, strings that can be pulled etc...please let me know.

I think this would be a great space for creative people to get together, esp anxious ones!!

You can carry on doing what you were doing now.

Thanking you muchly

Hi Cyclegirl, think this is a really good idea and i've been thinking about getting back to being more creative for years now, but it's tricky when your on your own - the only options seem to be to do something on your own - paint or draw or join an expensive group. I think creativity is also a great way of expressing yourself without having to use those pesky words that can often get us into hot water  :-[ and it's also potentially therapeutic when it taps into some difficult stuff we don't really know how to express... Go for it I'd sign up.   ;)

P.S. I'm gonna make this topic sticky which means it stays at top billing for ease of access by forum members  ;)

I must admit I quite like the sound of this creative arty crafty farty idea!!  ;)
I know we are now sadly entering the time of year with the weather changing, ie autumn, but have you maybe considered the idea of maybe doing something 'arty' in an open space?
I've never used spray paints, so the idea of getting local council permission to get creative on a blank wall sounds interesting, but probably I am talking out of my league here?
A sort of 'organised' graffitti? Where a few people can be creative on a blank wall, perhaps?
Or maybe some 'street' art? Using materials that will wash away, so non permanent, but would still enable folks to get creative, say maybe on the paving slabs somewhere? An area of the sea front maybe? ( Chalks and kids washable poster paints?)
Or there might be a community hall or church hall willing to let a group of responsible people use to express themselves creatively?
I like the idea of non directive art, ie no restrictions or limitations. Formal art classes tend to be so formal and restrictive dont they?
This is a great idea cyclegirl. I hope it takes off!  :-*
PS: Just re read your original post 'Cyclegirl' and see you wanted evenings, so I guess an indoor thing is best, considering the time of year.

Glad you may be up for something Jellybean! I also don't want anything formal or an art class...been there done that *blows raspberries*.

I like the idea of a wall / outside space and I hope there could be a point where this happens, however at this point, I just need a space I can get on and do my own creative thang  ;D

I am looking into a few halls and hope to look into this further. I'll update on here. So far I've contacted Mind and Hanover community centre. Mind have ignored me  >: and Hanover have no spaces available and are suggesting I attend one of their classes..poo to that!

Onwards and upwards. I'm starting a new job on Monday but this will only be 28 hours a week. I'm hoping to spend one day a week on exploring some creative options and becoming an arty farty floaty person..yay!

Congrats on the new job. Hopefully something will come up with hiring a hall for some art soon!
