New to area, and looking forward to a group environment
« on: March 10, 2010, 10:56:43 AM »
Hi guys

I am new to the area, and having had to finish with my psychoanalyst due to relocating, I was hoping to join a group rather than do one-to-one sessions with a shrink, as its quite heavy unravelling all your past and sometimes just a bit tiring talking about yourself all the time. I've done CBT also before and I found it was helpful, but the continuity of a group could be more supportive. So this group sounds like a good alternative.
this is a cool site, I think it makes you feel like less of a freak if so many other people have as many neuroses as me!
I try to look at it with a bit of humour these days, it does not help to be too serious about anxiety.

So I am hopefully coming to one of your meet ups soon!

Thanks

Nikki

Hi Nikki,

Welcome the forum and I look forward to meeting you in person sometime.

It's nice to hear that you're keeping a sense of humour.

Best wishes,
Martin. :)

Hi Nikki, Welcome to the Forum - agree with your views about the talking about yourself being tiring, unravelling the past can also be quite uncomfortable at times - especially when talking about family relations  :-\
I think this forum is an excellent way of supporting yourself and others with shared experiences in a safe environment and many of us have developed a sense of humour along the way (check out the 'you know you have anxiety / depression when...' threads on the forum).
The meets are also really useful for many of us on lots of different levels and look forward to meeting you at some point  :)

Hey Nikki

Welcome aboard. This is a very cool place, and like you i think humour is a good thing too and its certainly my main way of trying to make sense of my inner, but I like to think, rich, inner world!
