Has anyone tried EFT?
« on: April 07, 2010, 10:06:41 AM »
Hi guys

I came to my first BAF meeting last week at the Sanctuary Cafe, thanks for making me feel welcome. The birthday cake for Stresspuppy was a most welcome addition.
I am thinking it is time to try another therapy, I am feeling a bit stressed/anxious at the moment, so need some help.
I've gone to psychotherapy for 2 years up until recently, it was helpful, but I wanted to do something with more immediate results that is not such a long-term commitment.
Has anyone tried EFT, and is it a bit airy-fairy or does it work?
Any other suggestions? I also go to meditation once in a while, I find it helps to calm the mind, but would prefer a more 'active' approach.

Thanks

Nikki

Hi Nikki,

I've tried EFT and admit I was a bit sceptical initially but was willing to try anything!
I used it specifically to calm myself down before a driving test and I passed (having tried many times previously - too embarassing to disclose  :-[)

I don't know if it was just the actual EFT itself or the fact I'd approached the test differently:

My driving instructor didn't take me for a lesson before the test (so now anxiety generated from doing anything wrong during the lesson and beating myself up about it)
My driving instructor didn't accompany me to the test (my instructor almost seemed more anxious about it than me at times  ??? and consequently this may have made me more nervous - it was actually my instructor who told me about the EFT practitioner one of their other nervous pupils had used)
My partner drove me to the test centre - this allowed me to tap on the various points as taught and served to distract me so by the time I arrived at the test centre I was anxious but nowhere near as much as on previous occassions - so must have been at the right level on the day because I passsed  ;D

During the sessions with the EFT practitioner she was able to show me testimonials and during the instructive part I felt a deep sense of calm and  of being very relaxed - similiar to that experienced during Hypnotherapy.
I think I would give EFT a positive review if only for the sense of calm experienced and I really believe that the tapping can serve as a useful external and internal focus away from anxious thoughts.

Hope that helps  :)

I have tried EFT - I was offered 5 sessions for free. Unfortunately that wasn't really enough time to try it enough and my therapist spent a lot of time asking about my medical history, but the actual EFT that I did receive I found to be quite helpful in that I experienced a deep sense of calm.

They hold EFT sessions at The Cornerstone just off of Palmeira Square in Hove. I think it costs about ?8 per session, quite low key, group setting. I haven't tried it myself because I am too anxious to sit in a group like that but it is said to be very good.

I went to one of the group meetings at the Cornerstone last week and I found it very helpful. I was very skeptical at first but Joss the therapist was very good. She made me feel at ease and after tapping the points for a while I felt very calm. I was asked to rate my anxiety at the beginning and after the session. I was quite anxious sitting in a group of people I didn't know at first, but they were very friendly. EFT helped them quit smoking, build confidence etc yet they continue to use it to help with other aspects of life.

The next one is on Friday 17th September and starts at 6-8pm at The Cornerstone, Hove. ?8 fee.  I will be going to this one. The tapping can look pretty silly but it works wonders  :P
