A SUCCESS WHOO HOO
« on: May 04, 2010, 01:05:36 PM »
I didn?t post here before the event because I was worried I would have to come back (again) and say ?yeah it didn?t go so well?, BUT it went REALLY WELL!

Had a reception party on Saturday (someone liz works with). I was really nervous about it before hand, (obviously all my biggies ? meeting new people, in a party like atmosphere, in an area I?m not familiar with (Lewes)!) and spent 3 hours before it asleep! I had a hair appt in the morning which I had a big wobble over, locked myself in the toilet for 10 mins to try and calm down and then sat there getting my hair dyed fighting off panic by reading! Anyway, the reception went brilliantly, I met Liz?s work colleagues the majority of whom were lovely and very very easy to talk too. Got drunk, made conversations and had a good time. Things I am taking away from this experience:

1)   I am able to push through my anxieties
2)   I am good at making conversation with new people
3)   I enjoy listening to what others have to say
4)   I am a positive person (highlighted by the fact someone else was exceedingly negative and miserable)
5)   Liz and I are actually able to go out drinking and have a nice time without it escalating into a massive row.
6)   I look quite nice in a dress

I am feeling very positive, and am interested in what liz?s colleagues said about me ? but don?t want to actually ask her if they?ve mentioned me today!

That is brilliant Dreaming, well done.

Number 4 is a real bonus! If there is someone else at a do who is patently the least attractive personality in the room, it takes huge amount of pressure off.  >:D When I get anxious I drink too much and tend to stay out too long, and have horrendous flash backs the next day, causing overwhelming anxiety the next time I meet the same people, so it always helps when there is a complete alcoholic in the crowd, who I know will be far more of a drunken idiot than me!

In fact, there could be a business opportunity here. Perhaps BAF could set up a "hire an obnoxious person" agency, so that when any of us are feeling really socially anxious, we could hire an actor to act like a complete prick, thus taking the pressure off us.  ;D

Well Done Dreaming - glad it was a success - really big fan of the way you use the forum to post what you've learnt from the experience before and after  ;D keep up the good work  ;D

Hhm what else could we call the hire an obnoxious person agency? 'Renta-partypoop'... (I nearly typed out something a bit rude there)  ;D
Count your blessings daily and remember that no landscape ever looks like the map that represents it.

Nice one Dreaming! I'm glad it went well and for what it's worth, I'd never describe you as a negative person.  :)
Never a failure, always a lesson.
