Hello!
« on: June 08, 2010, 05:44:50 PM »
Hello,

I meant to introduce myself sooner. I'm 25 and have been living in Brighton on and off since 2008. I have experienced anxiety since I was a teenager but only really faced up to what causes it at the end of last year. I've just finished seeing a therapist for cognitive analytical therapy and though I made some progress in therapy, I still feel my life is rather limited because of the anxiety and I also feel rather lost...

I'm keen to come to one of the Wednesday night meetings to share experiences and get out meet some more Brighton folk :) It's a bit daunting thinking of meeting a group of complete strangers but I'm sure everyone feels like that at first!

Welcome to the forum Kittycat, you've taken the first steps to helping yourself - so well done  :) It seems to be a common trait of many people with anxiety that it can take a long time to realise that our lives seem to be affected in many different ways before we're able to identify the role anxiety plays and then move to the next stage of wanting to do something about it. I know it's taken me a very long time and I'm still unravelling past experiences that I can make links with my anxieties and sometimes this helps to put the missing pieces together.

Perhaps the feeling of being lost you speak of is part of the process and I guess why you've come here to find company and a better understanding?
The Wednesday meets are a good way of meeting other local individuals living with anxiety and it can be very daunting before you make that next step forward. Tomorrows meet is a little different in that the group will meet at Bombay Aloo Mix on St. James Street, it's worth checking the meetings and events section of the forum for updates on the meets. We also have a meet during the day at the Pavilion Gardens - again check the meetings and events section for details.

Look forward to meeting you at some point.  :)

Hi Cat, welcome to the forum!   :)

Yeah, perhaps unsurprisingly, lots of new members can find it difficult when coming to a meet for the first time. We're all surprisingly laid back though so I'm sure you'll be just fine. I'll look forward to meeting you whenever you feel ready.

Best wishes,
Martin.

Hey Kat! It was really lovely to meet you yesterday, also cool to find a fellow Welshy around these parts! I'm sure that you'll find that the open and friendly atmosphere of the meets will do wonders for beginning to build your confidence, and the vegan chocolate cakes not bad either ;)Look forward to seeing you again.

Hi Kat, sorry I didn't get around to introducing myself - it was a very busy meet. Good to see you made it and I also have a welsh connection  :)
