A new job
« on: June 24, 2010, 11:46:40 AM »
Hi guys and gals,
This is to tell you I am back to work. I got a job as a researcher in the Middle East. My PhD of economics is virtually finished, I only have to pass the viva.
This is the kind of job I was looking for and the atmosphere at work is okay however, my anxiety has rocketed again - as so my sleep is disturbed -, like in the old times, and I fear I'll never be a normal person. In addition, I am always sleepy at work and I don't know what to do to stay awake: lots of coffees, coke, etc. and I still fall asleep. I am not sure whether it is my SA what produce my restlessness at work or not, but the think is that I am not able to enjoy the work or social relations there.
Last time I went to Moore's Caf? it was shut down (I think it was in Christmas). I hope you are all well and to meet you again in Brighton once I finish here.
Cheers,
Manu

Hi Manu, Congratulations on the job front  :) sorry to here it's being blighted by the anxiety and sleep disturbance  :(  maybe worth reviewing what your doing sleep prep wise - know the caffeine load up during the day ain't likely to help  :o and sounds like if your falling asleep anyway your exhausted  ::)

Just did a quick google and here's a link to a site that gives lots of good practical advice for getting a good nights sleep:

http://helpguide.org/life/sleep_tips.htm

I don't suffer with SA so it's difficult for me to advise you on that front but think getting the sleep routine back may have positive benefits for the SA - it just sounds like you have little energy or reserve to even start managing the SA if your falling asleep at work loaded with caffeine. Hope that makes sense.

More cafe has been sold - but we don't know what the plans are and in the meantime we've been meeting up at the sanctuary Cafe in Hove:

http://www.sanctuarycafe.co.uk/Sanctuary/Welcome.html

keep checking the meets and events section for any future change of venue when you want to meet up again.
take care  :)

Count your blessings daily and remember that no landscape ever looks like the map that represents it.

Manu!!! It's really nice to hear from you!

Congratulations on your new job. It wouldn't seem abnormal for anyone suffering from SA to feel anxious in a new job. I would recommend seeking out some form of therapy that you feel might work for you; maybe it will pass; maybe finding a way to truly relax in between work could be the key.
Are you looking after yourself with good food and exercise etc?

See you around sometime and take care,
Martin.  :)
Never a failure, always a lesson.

Hi Stresspuppy and Martin,
Thank you so much for the link and your help. As in other times your advice and sympathy are very valuable.
SA is something nonsensical and absurd if you want but unfortunately it does happen. The intensity changes along the time and sometimes you don?t know why you feel better. I have a house mate and most of the time I am blocked to meet him as I don?t know what to say and what not.
My habits are not healthy, I almost always eat on the street and I don?t exercise at all. However, from tomorrow I?ll start walking to work. Regarding sleep, probably caffeine isn?t the best solution maybe it just doesn?t disappear during the evening?
Also, it may happen that my experience of sleeping badly in the past horrifies me and disturb itself my sleep. I?ll try to see the positive side of things and not to be so perfectionist.
I wish I could have a curry night with you in Brighton :)!
Cheers,
Manu
