Trouble going on
« on: August 26, 2010, 06:42:47 PM »
Why when everything is good do I feel so bad?

Everyone around me is so proud of my achievements but I feel like a loser?

I sit in silence but I wish I was screaming!

I feel so low but I can't cry.

Yeah I know how this feels. Nothing I ever do is good enough for me. Depression is a tough one. Some things I find which help:

Keep busy!! Even though doing stuff is the last thing you feel like doing. Just do something, anything productive.
Make sure you're getting the right amount of sleep, at the right times. So no less than 6 hours and no more than 10, and they've got to be at night!
Eat properly. I've had to give myself a meal plan lately and it's helped a lot I think.
Plan something for you to look forward to. Always have something in the future to think about, even if it's just a night in watching films, or a walk on the beach.
Light exercise, fresh air and sunlight.

If you are still struggling, perhaps you could go to your GP? I am definitely not one to advocate medication as a means to an ends, but it can help you get out of a rut, and doesn't have to be a long term thing. Depression can sometimes be a chemical imbalance, I know that problems with serotonin production run in my family. Sometimes genetics can really suck.

Sorry to hear your pain  :( and I can empathise with the conflict of despite things appearing to be good on the outside on the inside your struggling. It certainly does sound as if depression is bringing you down and clouding your ability to recognise your achievements. I agree with Alex about perhaps seeing your GP and also the need to keep as pro-active as you possibly can (in your comfort zone - as in don't force yourself into situations that you know are going to cause you stress and make you feel worse). Nows a time to be kind to yourself and do those little acts of kindness like taking a gentle stroll, having a relaxing bath and an early night, rediscovering a previous hobby or contacting a good friend.

Hope your mood lightens soon.
Count your blessings daily and remember that no landscape ever looks like the map that represents it.

It could be a simple case of being extremely tired after all the hard studies that you have done.

Theres nothing wrong with going to the docs. he/she may want to give you something to ease the situation temporarily, this is Ok.

I agree that sleep and good food are very important and you must respect your body at times like these, even if you dont feel like eating, you simply must.  Small amounts if you cant manage normal portions.  Sleep is good, its the only time your mind and body can take stock and file away the day.

Never underestimate the importance of sleep and food they are the very fuel of our lives and if interupted will undermine our live considerably.

Keep your sense of humour too ;D
